Why You Should Eat Watermelon

Summer time and watermelon go hand in hand. I don't think I ever go a Summer without eating watermelon. Its is so sweet and helps replenish my thirst on those hot days.

Some benefits of watermelon are: it is 92% water, full of electrolytes, and great for preventing dehydration. But here are several other benefits of eating this fruit, that you may not know.


Watermelon contains choline which may improve your quality of sleep. Choline helps aid in the transmission of nerve impulses, assists in fat absorption, and can help reduce chronic inflammation. It also has special amino acids that aids in muscle movement and soreness after a workout, which you can read more about here.

When you take a bite of that sweet and juicy watermelon, you may be doing your skin a favor, without even knowing it. Skin boosters such as vitamin A, vitamin C, and Collagen are found in watermelon.

There is some evidence that lycopene and vitamin E work in several different ways to help reduce damage to our vessels, such as preventing oxidative damage, and reducing low grade inflammation. Consumption of adequate antioxidants along with other lifestyle changes, may help reduce the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

As if you needed another reason to eat more, eating watermelon provides you with more lycopene than raw tomatoes. This is good news for watermelon fans.


In fact, the amount of lycopene found in one cup of watermelon is 1.5 times (6 milligrams) greater than  one cup of tomatoes (4 milligrams).
