Healthy and Sinfully Delicious Treats

Valentine's Day means gifts and treats, especially chocolate. But, let's be honest, who wants to feel guilty for treating themselves on Valentine's Day?! Here are 3 guilt free treats that make you feel like your are indulging but are full of antioxidants and heart healthy flavonoids. So go ahead, treat yourself and your loved ones!

Berry Cherry Almond Bites


4 ounces 70% bittersweet chocolate
1 tablespoon pure unrefined coconut oil
Dried blueberries and cherries
Almond slivers

  Melt chocolate for 30 seconds in a microwave safe bowl. Stir and repeat if needed. Stir in the coconut oil and mix until well blended. Lightly grease a mini cupcake pan with coconut oil. Place some dried berries in the bottom. Carefully pour the melted chocolate and top with more berries and almond slivers.

Peanut Butter Chocolaty Covered Strawberries


1 pound strawberries, washed and dried
4 ounces dark chocolate
1/4 cup natural peanut butter
1/4 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup honey
Pink sugar crystals (optional)

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper. Microwave the chocolate, peanut butter, and milk in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds or until melted, being careful not to burn the chocolate. Mix in the honey and stir until well blended. Dip strawberries into the chocolate mixture and place on wax paper. Sprinkle lightly with sugar crystals. Place in the freezer until the chocolate hardens. Keep refrigerated.

Don't forget to warm up on cold nights with your sweetie with some sweet and spicy hot chocolate.

Mexican Hot Chocolate


½ cup stevia or agave nectar
¼ cup Dutch chocolate or natural unsweetened cocoa1/3 cup hot water4 cups milk
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons chili powderCinnamon to tasteDark chocolate
Pinch of salt

Use a lemon zester or small holed grater to finely grate chocolate. Mix stevia or agave, cocoa, and salt in medium saucepan; stir in water. Cook and stir over medium heat until boiling. Stir for 2 more minutes. Stir in milk and heat, but do not boil. Remove from heat. Sprinkle each serving with cinnamon powder and top with grated dark chocolate.  

For single serving to be made in the microwave:

1 cup 2% milk
1 tablespoon Dutch chocolate or cocoa
1 tablespoon agave or stevia
2 teaspoons chili powder
Cinnamon
Dark chocolate

Combine Dutch chocolate or cocoa and 2 teaspoons of cold milk, Stir until smooth. Add the rest of the milk. Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until hot. Whisk in the chili powder and agave or stevia. Sprinkle with cinnamon and top with grated dark chocolate.
